STUDENTS’ SPACE
yara zaher
The project proposes a small library and working area for students and faculty. Situated as a passage between two busy working areas, the space presents tension in its center due to the adjacent congestions. Mitigating this tension, the project addresses principles of design such as balance, symmetry, spatial organization. A central unit houses the main circulation and caters for the serving functions, with its mezzanine that emphasize the tension while opening the connection between the two floors. On the periphery of the space an element is placed with seating besides the windows to enhance the dialogue and connection between the indoor, outdoor and the user. The details of the project are in reference to functionality, such as dividing the space between served and serving areas, the use modular units for flexible layouts, the interplay of opacities and transparencies that creates various scenarios and connects spaces.
