A LA FAÇON DE MIES VAN DER ROHE IN TUGENDHAT

Mies van der Rohe´s project is characterized by the predominant horizontality of the floor and the ceiling squeezing in between the different places of the house and further away, the horizon. Architectural elements such as walls and columns define places within the house without them being enclosed and at the same time stage the transition from one place to another ensuring connection between these spaces and the exterior too. This project is based on the exploration of spaces within different types of drawings. As I worked on my project, I’ve discovered that the walls serve as pivotal elements, expressing not only their elongation across different spaces but also facilitating a sense of connectivity and expansion throughout. The walls aren’t just boundaries; they’re opportunities for endless exploration and innovation. The famous marble wall with its piers of steel plays a huge role in creating different experiences of spaces, in this case the wall I created allows for opportunities to move from one drawing to the other to create a different experience and at the same time, expanding from one place to the other. Like the Tugendhat villa, my drawings aspire to evoke a sense of spatial harmony, connectivity, and fluidity, where walls cease to be mere dividers and instead become catalysts for exploration and discovery.
