CLEAR-CUT

Engraved within the walls of LAU, Clear-cut is the name of the student hub I designed. The program of the project includes a dining area, a lounge area, two bathrooms, a counseling office, a study room, and a VR play area.
The design is influenced by Sculp(It)’s modernism and the three key features I extracted from the new and improved townhouse in Antwerp.
First, I implemented the idea of a slit insertion, by designing a deep and narrow glass and steel structure which I carefully embedded through the existing walls of Bassil Hall.
Second, to enhance transparency I placed large clear glass windows throughout the whole plan which allowed interactivity between different spaces.
Third, I used modern materials in my design to show the contrast between the innovative interior and the old-fashioned exterior which is made of stone.
Generally speaking, Clear-cut presents a multifunctional space tailored to meet various student needs. It offers designated areas for studying, lounging, dining, and socializing.
Additionally, it provides access to resources such as computers, printers, and study materials. The hub fosters a conducive environment for both individual focus and collaborative work, promoting academic success and community engagement.
