THINNING POWER
The studio is articulated around two main projects challenging the archaic conception of power in architecture and education institutions.
The first project started with a site analysis of a neighborhood in Beirut where architecture is destabilized by the ultimate presence of Nature as a mean of absolute strength. The analysis led to the conception of a unit for living re-questioning the fusion between architecture and Nature in a traditional Beiruti-bourgeois neighborhood.
The second project is a primary school in Africa – initially a competition -, that started with a precedent analysis of exemplary similar-themed projects. The thorough analysis led to the creation of the project of a primary school in specific natural condition, but first and foremost, challenging the conventional and archaic schooling systems centered around questionable uni-potent hierarchy. The students were able to propose schooling models that dismantle the disguised concept of soft-power that can be easily triggered in our modern societies.
Each phase of each projects culminated in high quality hand-made visuals, strong imagery and hand-crafted models. The visuals consisted of architectural drawings, axonometric drawings, perspective and composite drawings as well as montages. The models consisted of study models and final more detailed models showcasing the architectural language and the spatial and social experience. All representation materials, both visual and oral, were pushed to defend strong narratives presenting convenient solutions to the current status that is in a loop of depletion.
