NURTURING BAGHERE

jana karnib & Lina Hajjawi

Children’s house, sponsored by the Kaira Looro NGO, aims to create a space in the village of Baghere, south of Senegal, to prevent children’s malnutrition and favors their growth.
The project‘s concept coincides with the microanalysis of the living habits in Senegal, as families try to stay together within one community generating a juxtaposition of units next to each other. Spaces are juxtaposed next to each other based on their function creating places in between where people can connect and interact.
Based on specific research, the children’s house is built by vernacular methods of construction and materials available in the village of Baghere and its surrounding: Bamboo, rammed e arth, clay… This combination will generate efficient, economical, and sustainable spaces out of the harsh environment, climate, and living conditions.
The children’s house will be part of a program affording people’s needs where they can benefit from agriculture and beekeeping to boost them financially and improve their children‘s nutrition.
