WEAVING A COMMUNITY: TRANSFORMING AN EXISTING REFUGEE CAMP INTO AN INTEGRATED COMMUNITY

­The project will deal with an urban environment consisting of a unique Armenian camp in Burj Hammoud, which is rich in socio-cultural value and unfortunately it is endangered and will be destroyed. Therefore, the project will tackle the global and individual aspect where it consists of rehabilitating existing neighborhood by creating urban fabric and by respecting individuality of each user. Live, Work , Play the main three component of my program it will include: workshops classes, housing ,communal areas, shops, restaurant, clinics, exhibition, gallery kitchen, market, offices ,nursery , Ngo, laundry , park, and a promenade between the old and new fabric that is accessible to the public including: park, gathering area, library, gym, conference, screening area, board games, yoga music , dancing , drawing and classes…. Finally keeping the oldest house as a memorial and adding a skin to it inspired by weaving community written on it the human rights as a statement that all humans are equal and deserve to live in dignity.
