INHERITED TRAUMA

antoine bou jaber

Trauma is inherited, from generation to generation life after war is harder than the war itself. One tries long and hard to cope with years and years of triggers trying to shake down memories clenching onto our daily lives. Walking around our site, traces of the war still haunt its streets. Veterans of this area try to get out of its war loop yet relics of its military history dominate its cityscape. My site located in Ashrafiyeh” hay el serian”, is dominated by the chaotic Alfred Naccache highway that extends throughout the entirety of the city. Underneath this loud and powerful structure lies a military base that accommodates veterans who are living uncomfortable lives due to some type of trauma, specifically sound trauma. Therefore, the proposed design is to create a medium that links the gap between what lies beneath the highway and what lives within it. My project, being a therapeutic center, designed in a progressive elevation of floors and vast open spaces, will attract veterans to progressively cope with their sound trauma while simultaneously linking them to the noisy urban jungle that lives within the highway.
