BURJ HAMMOUD

For my final project I tackled the neglected coastal area of Bourj Hammoud that is known for its landfills and wasteland that significantly expanded into the sea during the last few decades. The pollution and industrialization of the area has cut the access of the people to the sea leaving the fishermen marina as the only gem that connects the coast to the community of Bourj Hammoud.
For that, I started by redesigning and planning the marina in a way to ameliorate the circulation and pedestrian access to different areas of it and proposed a seafood production facility, cooking and eating area and a boat exhibition and maintenance facility to bring back the people to the marina and reconnect the community with the fishermen. The fish market connects the three elements and different functions together creating interesting spaces and common areas.
The concept was to create an organic project that fits with in the dynamic site that has been in perpetual change during the last decades, focusing mainly on the roof that created the façade and interesting spaces below following its flow.
