P1. Precedent Analysis _ Louis Kahn _ Esherick House
Louis Kahn said, “When I see a plan, I just see the plan as though it were a symphony, the realm of spaces in the construction and light”. He took the Comlongon Castle as an inspiration for Esherick House and began the design with a square, adding a rectangular extension and reshaping parts to establish a new axis. The resulting boundary walls, marked by openings, delineate spaces in a rhythmic interplay of light. Following this, my folly tried to maintaining the essence of Kahn’s vision—a symphony of construction and light.
P2. Music School & Residences
The design process for a music school began by identifying its functional needs. Inspired by Carrilho da Graca’s Lisbon music school, I centralized the public space, like a piazza, where the orchestra performs and people gather. Classrooms and dorms are private, fostering an introverted atmosphere. The circulation was centralized to allow people on stairs to witness the musical performance. The arrangement of classrooms disrupts residential continuity, creating a visual rhythm mirroring the cadence found in music, enriching the overall architectural experience.
