Barsbay Tower dominates its position in el Mina, Tripoli. The history of the tower itself expresses defense attacks mechanisms due to it being a military tower. The first attempt of my design strategy was to create several extrusions that ‘attack’ the tower like the war machines would attach themselves on the building’s weak points like parasites. The cinema on the other hand, led me to the work of the Russian Constructivists which promoted communal living and attempted to create immersive experiences and social utilities and to Eisenstein’s theory of montage. The installation I created might attack the building but at the same time one is able to remove these temporary additives in order to restore the building to its original state. In this way, the history of the tower is somewhat preserved but also remains a place where multiple experiences are able to emerge.
