BEYOND ISOLATION: INTERACTIVE FARMING

The circulation within the reliced fabrics of Abd El Wahab Street creates the concept of a village within a city, where the habitants first experience a shared common space with their neighbors before accessing their own house. In my project, the farmers’ market acts as a common ground that brings everyone together, and most importantly gives the elderly an opportunity to benefit the community through their experience. The elderly themselves grow the products on the roof of the building, where every individual’s gardening space is defined through benches; forming playful divisions and overlooking different viewports. As for the market, it is partitioned by structural columns, which organize the stands, but also allow a sitting area facing the garden of the adjacent plot, thereby integrating it into the site.
