MUTANT HOUSING
layan el amine
The project is a mutant housing that redefines residential and working spaces. Inspired at first by the structure of the M’zab (Algerian architecture), the project utilizes the idea of separation 2 spaces within one volume. The ground floor is an open plan, a fully liberated cell connecting the building to the city, while the upper levels feature the subdividable cell that allows its user to configure it according to their needs. Partitions within the cells can be added or removed fostering ever-evolving layouts. A slab extension forms a communal area linked to the external circulation creating a continuous street-like environment. The building’s unity is achieved through the superimposition of cells, creating an ever-changing whole within a fixed structure. The project offers its inhabitants a living organism that reflects and responds to the lives within it.
