2 LOVERS 2 PODS

wael srouji

A shared accommodation for two private dwellings of occasionally isolated lovers. The architecture is a retelling of Romeo and Juliet from Shakespeare’s play, but it takes place in an alternate world in which Romeo suffers from mental impairments and Juliet becomes his caretaker after surviving his lethal attempt. Hence, Juliet’s pod becomes the principal architecture that connects to meditating terraces and social/entertaining environments., the emphasis further develops on the daybed in a theoretical manner. Furniture is not just a mass-produced commodity; it is an architecture that can induce the Heideggerian concept of dwelling. It is an accommodation between people and their surroundings. The daybed is meant to be a living space for the lovers that induces a sense of romance, calmness, and comfort. The daybed became the focal interest of the pod, which led to its replication and dominance. The obsession with going back and forth from part to whole and vice versa enables mastery of the required result of architecture and Heideggerian dwelling.
