BETWEEN THE TWO SUNS

wael srouji

Two axially opposing corridors within the structure cross at a shared courtyard, one of which is perpendicular to the courtyard and the other exhibits significant angularity. At the entrance, a bench pointing west is placed to enjoy the sunset. The courtyard hosts a daybed and firepit to stargaze at night, and below, a sheltered bed is oriented east so that the daybreak light can draw people to sit on the cantilevered bench. Similar to how De Moura designed the variously angled house fragments, the walls are differently oriented to play a significant spatial role in capturing various perspectives and orienting the eye to each naturally occurring sky perspective.
