This project, much like the film, explores the relationship between human morality and imagination. The virtual house is designed for the dweller’s avatar, who in the virtual world hides their murderous truth. Freakishly, the entrance to the virtual house is accessible from the most out of sight and mysterious space in the existing house. The massing follows the biaxial directionality of the existing house and is deceivingly very simple in its shell, in reference to the precedent house studied – Herzog & de Meuron’s Rudin House – with a contrastingly tricky interior. The spaces within are designed to be intentionally disorienting yet intriguing, luring the visitor to explore further. A rotating wall behind the bathroom sink, hides the shifted stairway and closet where the murderous avatar hides his skeletons.
