THE URBAN LOOP

Byblos is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world and through the years it started growing outside its historical city bounds creating an activity gap between the eastern and the western part of the city. In order to re-center the area and creating balance, the project is acting as a main link between the main highway of Byblos and the famous Roman Route. This urban infrastructure situated on an urban historical axe creates a pedestrian loop formed by slits in the slab. Under this independent roof, are a Mosque and a Church that possess their unique structural systems. Also, the minaret and the bell tower act as a frame to the urban historical situation. This urban project ties and links the overall city with a pedestrian highway bridge, a nearby bus stop and a direct entry from the lower historical roman road making the project an essential infrastructure and a religious building in one.
