Art was once destroyed by the Beirut port explosion of 2020. At that time the blast happened and Karantina and Mar Mikhael were mostly effected. Art is there to express the feelings of the people as they unite with their emotions. Mar Mikhael is a living exhibition, where people have used the walls to express certain thoughts.
The continuity of art on it’s different presentations is an element of connection in the city. An art market is created in the heart of the city of Beirut and in mar Mikhael specifically. As art meets architecture, art starts shaping the boundaries of the city. These boundaries later on shape the market layers creating an in-between space, each triggering a different spatial quality.
Markets are places in which people come in contact with each other’s, places that evoke the senses and often the memories. They encourage people to communicate. In my market art can be performed and become a source of income, it is a mirror of the activities taking place in Mar Mikhael. Art becomes the connecting element in the city.
