BARRIERS OF COMFORT

ahmad bachacha

Growing old for seniors can become a challenge as they develop a sense of dependence on others. This goes in contrast with their stubborn and defensive behavior as they constantly try to prove their ability to be functional.
The housing center embodies the senior’s identity as it presents itself on the exterior as a dominating barrier that evokes a sense of intimidation upon approach. It is mysteriously shaded from the public domain and lacks any character. On the contrary, the interior spatial experience is a completely separate one as it is in service to its users at any moment. The architectural language and the element of light are also studied according to duality in mind as they present contrast and disagreement while still allocating for balance and comprehensiveness throughout the different parts of the center.
